New year, new you, right? Perhaps this year you have resolved to take your health more seriously by eating better foods (and encouraging your family to do so as well). Maybe you’ve committed to being more adventurous by taking more road trips. Or perhaps you’ve done both — if so, we highly recommend one of these healthy snacks for your next road trip in the new year:
- Fruits and veggies: Bring along a small cooler with sandwich baggies full of snacks like grapes, celery, berries, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli. These foods are extremely healthy and not too messy either.
- Beef jerky and string cheese: If you need your fill of meat and cheese, skip the fast food burgers, and go with a high-protein beef jerky and some string cheese. We like string cheese because you can eat it slowly; sometimes when we eat too fast, we tend to overeat before realizing we are full.
- Protein bars: To stave off hunger on long trips, go with a protein bar with at least 10 grams of protein.
- Mixed nuts: If no one is allergic, consider walnuts, pistachios, pecans, and peanuts. You can throw in some raisins and M&Ms for delicious homemade trail mix.
