Over the course of nine years, drivers in Asia and Europe have been able to enjoy the powerfully performing Mazda diesel engine lineup. Now, U.S. drivers can finally try out the diesel engine for themselves. Beginning in July, you can purchase the Mazda CX-5 with the 2.2-liter SKYACTIV®-D four-cylinder diesel engine in the U.S.
The SKYACTIV®-D engine packs an impressive 168 horsepower and 290 lb-ft of torque. While the conventional gasoline engine does deliver 310 lb-ft of torque, the diesel makes up for this difference by giving you superior efficiency with an EPA-estimated 30 mpg on the highway with all-wheel drive.*
Although the wait for the diesel engine has been long, Mazda has been continually working to improve the technology so the U.S. will be offered the most refined version yet. For example, Mazda added AdBlue urea dosing, which helps reduce the nitrogen oxide emissions to make the engine more environmentally friendly.
The diesel engine will only be available on the top-level Mazda CX-5 Signature trim. This model comes equipped with premium Nappa leather, a frameless rearview mirror, Abachi wood trim, heated and ventilated front seats, leather-trim details and the full suite of i-ACTIVSENSE® safety technology.
With so many great features, the Mazda SKYACTIV®-D engine is bound to be a hit. We at Hiley Mazda of Hurst invite you to test-drive the Mazda CX-5 to see for yourself all the vehicle has to offer.
